Disable Hardware Acceleration Chrome

About Hardware Acceleration :- It is a way through which any application will reduce the load on CPU and transfer the load to other hardware components that specialize in it. Such as using Graphic Cards for loading graphics.

In Chrome too, hardware acceleration is present. But it may lead to slow down Chrome working. This is because, your specialized hardware component may not be that powerful to handle the load as compared to your CPU.

So if you are facing slow Chrome performance you may try to disable Hardware Acceleration. I am not saying that it will surely help with Chrome performance but you may give it a try.

Steps to disable Hardware Acceleration Chrome :

  • Open Settings of chrome as shown in image below.
  • Now click on ‘Advanced’ in left side menu list.
  • From the Advanced menu dropdown select ‘System’ option.
  • Now click on toggle button for option ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’. After you toggle the button off, a ‘Relaunch’ button should appear beside it. Click the ‘Relaunch button.
  • After this Chrome will be restarted with all the previous tabs opened and disabled Hardware Acceleration.

Note :- If you do not find any performance improvement in Chrome you may enable Hardware Acceleration again by following same steps a above.
